TAX TIPS
Companies in the manufacturing and construction industry may be eligible for the new special deduction allowed beginning in 2005. The deduction is the Domestic Production Activities Deduction. Simply put the deduction is the applicable percentage times the gross profit earned in the qualified production activity. The deduction may not exceed 50% of the W-2 wages paid by the taxpayer. The applicable percentage is 3% for years 2005 and 2006, 6% for years 2007 through 2009, and 9% thereafter.
